Feature fins and MSCP Brise Soleil in Longbridge, UK

Project Overview:

As the former site of innovators in motor engineering, Longbridge holds proud memories for people in the Midlands. Ambitious plans for a £1 billion regeneration of the site are taking shape. The flagship store of the latest phase of town centre development is a 14,000 sq metre M&S store with a six floor multi-storey 500 space car park. Cladding of this large structure uses a combination of perforated aluminium panels and aerofoil fins, whilst wider aerofoil 'blades' decorate the M&S store front

Over 5000 sq metres of panels, aerofoil fins and blades needed coating and delivering in large batches to avoid any construction delay. Coatings with twenty five year guarantees against corrosion and deterioration in colour were specified.

The Solution:

Powdertech Corby has the expertise and facilities to meet all of the contractor's requirements. Realising the necessity for strict timely delivery, Powdertech liaised with the other subcontractors and collected the batches of fabricated panels, rather than wait for delivery. The panels and aerofoils were pre treated and powder coated on both sides in high performance Syntha Pulvin powder. The items were then delivered to site in batches to meet the time schedule. At 3.0m by 1.3m the panels needed careful handling and packaging to avoid any bending or dents. The aerofoil fins and blades needed equally delicate treatment with widths of 100mm and 400mm respectively.

Benefits:

  • Powdertech is an approved applicator of Syntha Pulvin architectural powder coatings with excellent weather resistance and colour stability.
  • Colour is consistent between batches
  • Coatings have good edge coverage.
  • Powdertech takes full responsibility for its part of the project - collecting and delivering the cladding panels as well as coating them.
  • The company has expertise in packaging for transit
