Balconies, Dickens Yard, Ealing, London

Project Overview:

Dickens Yard, developed on the site of a former council car park in the centre of Ealing, is a high density, mixed use development. There are shops, cafes, restaurants, health and leisure facilities at street level. Sitting directly above these are over six hundred residential apartments with landscaped courtyards, terraces and balconies.

Over 70 galvanised steel balcony bases and 500 metres of aluminium glass channel all needed to be coated in a finish that would resist corrosion and damage for many years. The balcony bases were large structures of up to 6m by 1.5m and weighing in excess of 800kg and would require finishing to be carried out in a plant with appropriate capacity.

The Solution

High performance powder coatings with durability in excess of twenty-five years were chosen from two of the top powder manufacturers used by Powdertech; Axalta and Valspar. Powdertech Corby's plant was able to accommodate the large structures through the process stages of pre- treatment, powder coating and curing.

Benefits

  • Axalta and Valspar high performance powders have proven track records in excess of 30 years. The external metal work will look impressive for many years to come.
  • Powdertech's plant easily accommodated the largest of the balcony bases.
  • With over 28-years experience, Powdertech has the expertise necessary for ensuring time critical deliveries and secure packaging of large and heavy items.
