London’s teeming underground railway network is punctuated by numerous stations all of which present varied requirements for powder coating. Through our “One-Stop-Shop” capability, expertise and service-led approach we continue to supply specialist metal finishes within the London Underground and Overground network.
Working Through the Night
Farringdon Underground Station has been redeveloped to incorporate a larger ticket hall and a link into an adjacent concourse. Totem masts supporting CCTV cameras, lighting and signage are galvanized & powder coated to the exacting standards of BS6497 / ISO13438. When combined with Syntha Pulvin powders the system is guaranteed for 25 years. With no storage space for the masts at the station Powdertech worked 24hr shifts to help deliver the coated masts in the middle of the night, to be erected before the commuters swamped the platforms.
Reducing the costs of graffiti damage
Removal of graffiti in London Underground stations costs around £20million annually. In a recent refurbishment, Swiss Cottage Underground station specified an anti-graffiti coating for the tunnel lining above the platforms. We used a polyurethane based powder that has a hard and dense surface from which graffiti can be more easily wiped than from conventional finishes. The white coated tunnel linings provide a cleaner, brighter and less intimidating space.
Meeting Disability Discrimination Act Regulations
At Paddington Underground, Overground and DLR stations we have applied coating systems for access handrails. To meet Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) regulations, Part M, hand rails must provide grip and to be ‘warm to touch’. We are approved applicators of Plascoat Thermoplastic PPA571 that meets DDA specification together with excellent impact and corrosion resistance.
