Galvanized balustrade, Princes Dock (Liverpool)

Marine galvanizing duplex coating

Project Overview:

This iconic development in Liverpool city centre is designed to echo the days of transatlantic trade and passenger ships with the sweeping feature balustrade and topped off with stylised masts.

Powdertech managed the complete galvanizing, fettling and powder coating process to achieve a system guaranteed to last 25-years.

Project Details:

160 feature balustrade panels up to 6000mm long and 2000mm high weighing up to 400kg were galvanized, fettled and powder coated under the project management of Powdertech over a 6-month period.

Powder used is Syntha Pulvin Plus architectural polyester powder, reference number M4A0001. This matches to the polished concrete walls.

The finished balustrade was bolted to specially made transport frames and taken for assembly to the concrete “wall” in Manchester before onward transport to Liverpool to be lifted into place fully assembled.

Benefits:

This project demonstrates the benefits of design cooperation.

This large project required cooperation from design through to installation with a high degree of focus on maintaining the integrity of the finish throughout a long delivery chain. With tight deadlines and logistical complexity there was no room for error. The resulting finish is guaranteed for 25-years.
