Project Overview:
The Cathedral Quarter of Lincoln has many buildings of historic interest along notable streets including Steep Hill and The Strait. Unfortunately Danesgate House, built in 1963, was not an attractive addition to the area. Though structurally sound the building had fallen into disrepair, the 1960s concrete cladding looking particularly tired and out of place.
Now used as student accommodation, Danesgate House needed external and internal refurbishment, including better insulation, and the windows & façade needed replacing.
Solution:
The concrete was removed and replaced with aluminium cassette rain screen cladding consisting of 200mm planks in a clapperboard style. The windows were replaced with larger, grey double glazed slim-profile frames. The existing red brick of the building was maintained and the colour of the cladding was chosen enhance this. Powdertech Corby was asked to source five shades of grey to be applied to fifteen batches of 200mm aluminium planks. In order to minimise disruption to residents the refurbishments was carried out within a tight timescale. Powdertech Corby coated and delivered 2500 m² of aluminium across an 8 week period.
