Façade at Reims, France

Expert finish for French Archival Treasures

Project Overview:

The Council of the Marne is justifiably proud of its archived documents, the 'Archives of Marne', a collection of historical and contemporary records of the region some of which date back to the 10th Century.  A new prestigious building was required in Reims, France. As a repository for ancient documents the building needed to have very few windows. To enhance the external appearance of the building, cladding was designed to form an attractive pattern, with a raised profile in aluminium sheets. Over 3000 square metres of cladding needed to be coated  and delivered in 4- batches.

The Solution:

Powdertech (Corby) Ltd was commissioned to coat the cladding for the entire building. We coated over 1500 panels, ranging in size, the largest being 2.75m by 1.5m.  Working in consultation with the Council du Marne,  Powdertech commissioned Akzo to deliver a custom made  pearlescent RAL 1036 'gold' powder. Over 500kg of this powder was used.

Benefits

  • Powdertech's plant easily accommodated the largest of the panels.
  • The overall build schedule required the panels to be coated and delivered in three batches. This demanded a high degree of colour consistency between batches. Powdertech specialises in using high quality architectural powders with excellent colour consistency between batches.
  • With over 28-years experience, Powdertech has the expertise necessary for ensuring time critical deliveries, together with the secure packaging required for shipment to France .
  • Akzo make high performance powders with a proven track record in excess of 30 years. This prestigious building will look impressive for many years to come.
