Sustainability AND cost-savings with re-coated aluminium
Did you know that powder coating and aluminium can play a key role in supporting the circular economy and sustainability efforts?
Aluminum is one of the most recycled materials in the world, with almost 75% of the 1.5 billion tonnes of aluminium ever produced still in use today. The global Recycling Efficiency Rate (RER) of aluminium is currently 76%. The RER defines how efficiently aluminium is recycled throughout the value chain. (International Aluminium Institute – see the fact sheet here )
When paired with powder coating in architectural and interior design, it forms a true cradle-to-cradle system. The powder coated finish can be easily removed from aluminium (or steel) without damaging the underlying metal. Once stripped, the metal is ready to be pre-treated and re-coated, allowing it to be reused again and again. Expensive stocks of material can be refurbished or completely rebranded as the base metal is restored close to its original condition.
This ability to reuse materials and refurbish existing structures, rather than opting for new builds, is a valuable asset for companies striving toward net-zero carbon goals and enhancing their environmental sustainability efforts.
At Powdertech, we have recognized the growing need for professional powder coating removal and have recently invested £140K in the latest equipment, on site, to offer this service. The process is chemical, not thermal, therefore there is no heat distortion of the metal, simply a clean finish ready for re-painting.
