Thermoplastic coating for handrails, London Overground

Warm to touch finish

Project Overview:

The refurbishment of 4 London Overground stations on the East London line. Rotherhythe, Wapping, Surrey Quays and Whitechapel.

Project Details:

Completed during a 3-month period starting in December 2009 this contract required careful processing of complex, compound curved handrail and perforated mild steel panels. The material extends from the entrance hallway down the old brick-lined shafts to the platform.

The handrail follows the line of the old brick shaft walls and has been finished in Orange nylon to RAL2011. The inner wall of the stairs is made of perforated panels with full and half height handrails. The panels are in RAL9018, papyrus.

The contract was completed in several stages to meet with the client timescales and to allow for the bespoke manufacture of all materials to fit the nearly 180-year old structures.

Benefits:

The key need of the client was to meet strict installation deadlines that are important when working on live station projects.
